Helen Mirren is going to do her first comic book movie.
The Oscar winner has signed to play an assassin in “Red,” Summit Entertainment’s adaptation of the Wildstorm/DC Comics miniseries being directed by Robert Schwenke.
Mirren joins Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman in the tale of a former black-ops agent (Willis), now in retirement, who has to contend with younger, more high-tech assassins who show up to kill him. Mirren plays an old associate of Willis with a lethal set of skills.
Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are producing, while DC’s Gregory Noveck exec produces.
The title is expected to be a hot seller at AFM, which opens Wednesday.
CAA-repped Mirren has several films in the can, including “The Tempest,” Julie Taymor’s take on the Shakespearean play, Mossad thriller “The Debt,” and “Love Ranch,” a drama directed by her husband, Taylor Hackford.

It's a good to see her in different role. I like her pretty much. So I am just looking forward for her comic book movie.

I really enjoyed reading RED the comic book, and I like the choices of Helen Mirrin, Morgan Freeman, and Bruce Willis. But I do not like John C. Reilly as an actor. He is highly overrated, but maybe he will prove me wrong. I LOVE Mary-Louise Parker!!! She is smoking HOT!
