This is Mel Gibson's first big movie since 2002's "Signs," (he also appeared in 2003's "The Singing Detective," which his company produced), and your first reaction seeing this could be, "He is looking kinda old."
But then this puppy kicks in, and you're seeing the intense, dark Mel you used to love — and before you know it, you're on board. This is another entry in this age's long line of revenge movies, a trend started with "Taken," (revenge, rescue, whatever, it's still individuals meting out their own brand of justice), and this one looks like a worthy entry: well-crafted, taut, filled with emotion and action.
And how great is that line "You better decide whether you're hanging on the cross or banging in the nails." It's fresh lines like that could catch on to make this a hit, the way Liam Neeson's speech about his skill set got people talking about "Taken." (And it's a nice little allusion, intentional or not, to Mel's "The Passion of the Christ.")

Yawn!.. who does this type of plot line interest?
It's been done to death, and much better.
From the trailer, Mel's action lines sounded almost comical, and he seems to be phoning this one in.
Hes not getting another $10 from me until I see a trailer for Mad Max IV - "Beyond AntiSemiteDome"

All u f tards!!! Mel is back in business, go back to studying art and acting difficult or whatever you do! Who the F is looking for innovation in an action, it's always same thing anyway, shot and kill. The feel of the actor is what makes a good action.

The Boston accents have to be bad so people can understand what they characters are actually saying.
Also, it's lame to blame him that much over some comments he made when he was piss drunk. Put a lot of alcohol in somebody and they aren't the same person. In his case, he got super drunk and his dad crawled out of his mouth.

That's a fresh line? This article just sounds like a propaganda piece for this movie. And if your best comparison of it is to "Taken", no way I'll waste time seeing it; "Taken" was a horrible movie.

Why give this shithead (Mel Gibson) any money whether the film is any good or not. He hates Jews, gays, and women.....believes that the holocaust never happened (that from his father). Drinks, drives, divorced his wife he kept barefoot and pregnant for years because of his religious beliefs...and now has a new baby...by his new baby, a young hottie. What a piece of refuse this guy is. Wouldn't go see it if it were the last movie made on the planet.

That looks AWESOME! Lot of great talent involved, and damn is it good to see Mel back on the screen and being an unbelievably cool badass. I am now officially psyched.

As someone who loved the TV series on which this is based I was always dubious about this being workable as a film – especially being transplanted to the US and updated. I was even more dubous when I heard the Mel Gibson was playing the lead role. The trailor gave me no hope and now your review has buried this for me. Might check it out cable eventually

I saw it around 1989-1990 and it made such an impact on me that I finally tracked down a VHS copy around 2002.
