It's more than a year away, but Disney and Columbia better get training for a big fight.
Disney on Thursday unveiled the release date of "Tron Legacy," its update/sequel of the influential 1982 movie: Dec. 17, 2010.
This comes just days after Columbia pinned down the same date for "Hornet," which has already seen its release move twice before.
Both tentpole movies are chasing the same crowd, though from different vantage points. "Tron" is the directorial debut of commercial director Joseph Kosinsky and stars rising actor Garrett Hedlund. It's got nostalgia, Comic-Con buzz and the promise of cutting-edge CGI on its side. "Hornet" stars Seth Rogen and is directed by Michel Gondry. It's fueled by brainy hipness via Rogen and the promise of an arty action movie (what can one expect when the director of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" does a costumed crime-fighting movie?).
So who is mightier, Lightcycles or a 1966 Chrysler Crown Imperial? And who will blink and move off the date?

Fighting Tron is going to be tough. Green Hornet is expensive, but not so expensive that they couldn't move it into the Spring. Why not find a place for Death at a Funeral after the Summer and drop GH on top of LionsGate's Kick Ass? They should never have moved The Expendables.

Holy Hell, I couldn’t care less about Tron: Legacy – mostly because I’d never seen the original until about a year ago and I think it’s one of those films you have to see when you’re a young geek contemplating whether to join the chess team or learn computer.
