Action thriller “The Tournament” will open the Screamfest Horror Film Festival.
The British thriller has the high concept of being set during a contest where the world’s best assassins are forced to face off against each other in a town until there’s only one man standing. The once-every-seven-years contest is complicated when a priest is mistaken for an assassin.
Directed by Scott Mann and starring Robert Carlyle as the priest, the movie doesn’t have North American distribution but an enthusiastic reception at the fest could give it a boost, mirroring what happened with “Kick-Ass” at Comic-Con.
Previous Screamfest openers include David Arquette’s “The Tripper,” George Romero’s “Diary of the Dead” and last year’s “Trick ‘r’ Treat,” directed by Michael Dougherty.
The ninth annual festival will run Oct. 16-25 at Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood.

Just watched this movie tonight. I thought it was very good. Had good action scenes and a very fast paced. I read the synopsis and saw the trailer before hand. I knew the plot was thin so I did not expect it too be more than a straight up action flick. I am definitely buying this.
